They always tell you to do family history, but recently David and I figured something out that makes our family history way more exciting than we thought.
David has an ancestor named William H. Walker who served as one of the first three missionaries for the LDS church in South Africa. Through reading our family histories, we discovered that Elder Walker's companion baptized my ancestors the Stocks and Gilsons, and he even knew my ancestors! Elder Walker traveled back to Salt Lake City on a ship called "the Unity" with one of my ancestors, Esther Stock. Afterwards, Esther traveled on the Hunt Wagon train (right behind the Martin and Willie companies) and actually froze to death. We also found out from reading Elder Walker's diary, that Elder Walker sold land to my great great grandfather John Stock in Salt Lake City.
David's first name is William, and he was named after this ancestor William H. Walker. Pretty neat. Isn't it cool that our ancestors met 150 years before we did?
We go way back...
