We just celebrated Lily Weekend. We are so grateful to our supportive family who made the sacrifice to come up for Lily's Blessing Day: both mine and David's parents, John, Tami, and Ken and Wendy and their sweet little kids.
Saturday night, my parents took us out to eat at the Iguana Grill: my favorite OKC restaurant. We scarfed down Adobo burritos and talked about how much our sweet little Lily has grown. Afterwards, mom and dad took David and I out for hot fudge sundaes. We came home and Gram and I gave Lily a warm bath.
We woke up early Sunday morning to get Lily ready for her Blessing Day. While David and I got dressed, mom washed Lily's face and dressed her in her long, white blessing dress. It's the dress I wore when my dad blessed me almost 23 years ago. (Click here to see Lily's Blessing Day photoshoot--unedited, and here to see Lily's 6 week photoshoot)
The blessing was beautiful. February 3, 2013. In the circle stood David, my dad, David's dad, Lily's uncle John and Uncle Ken, and Bishop Erb. The words were beautiful and comforting. Lily is such a pure and sweet little soul. I have never seen her smile more in one day; Lily knew the day was hers. And she was perfectly quiet during the blessing. Just started up at everyone with her big blue eyes.
After Sacrament Meeting, we took pictures outside the brick church building. Just how I'd always imagined. Then the whole family came back to our apartment for a little family meeting. My three nephews each shared a spiritual thought. Then David expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices everyone made to come. He talked about Lily and how we both KNOW that she needs to be a part of our family right now. Then family members went around the room and bore testimony. It was a sweet moment; all was perfectly right with the world. I'm so grateful for my loving husband who lets me be a mother and a stay-at-home mom to our precious Lily. More than anything, I am grateful that David is a worthy Priesthood holder. It was a special day for a Father's Blessing.
Then we ate chicken salad sandwiches and pita chips with hummus for lunch. And some of us played Monopoly Deal while others passed Lily around the room. It was a precious day, and I am so grateful for family who makes each other a priority.
