Info Post
Since we got married, David and I have set aside a little bit of money each month for food storage.  So if we literally have no money, we can fall back on the beans and rice that's tucked away under our bed.  Or for times like that "snow storm" we had a few weeks ago: everyone ran to the store to stock up for the storm of the century.  Store shelves were completely empty of water bottles and canned food, but we stayed home and snuggled because we already have that stuff.

And since tornado season is approaching, we decided to put together these simple, med school budget approved 72 hour kits.  Our cute friend Mandy gave us this idea, so check out her blog for some really good tips.

We spent $30 on meals for the two of us, and mind you, we are trying to be cheap; no MREs here.  We went to the store, picked out everything we needed, and came back to put everything together.  And for some reason, we ended up with not enough food (as the pictures show).  We're still finishing up with our kits, but ideally here is what one 72 hour kit will include:

Day 1:
-Breakfast: V8 & oatmeal
-Lunch: Clif bar & vienna sausages
-Dinner: tuna & granola bar
Snack: trail mix
Bottled water

Day 2:
-Breakfast: V8 & oatmeal
-Lunch: Clif Bar & tuna
-Dinner: Cup O Soup & peanut butter crackers
Snack: banana chips and nuts
Bottled Water

Day 3:
-Breakfast: V8 & oatmeal
-Lunch: Clif Bar & vienna sausages
-Dinner: Can of soup & peanut butter crackers
Snack: trail mix
Bottled water
